Housing & Urban Development (H & UD) Department, Government of Odisha has created a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) that is Bhubaneswar-Puri Transport Services (BPTS) which is renamed as Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) vide Notification No. 1919 dated.19.01.2018 & subsequent Corrigendum Notification No.7387 dated.19.03.2018 which has been registered under companies Act, 2013 to oversee the operation of City Bus Services in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Puri Development areas.
The Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) (Formerly known as Bhubaneswar-Puri Transport Services (BPTS)) is the sole public bus transport provider for Bhubaneswar city. It’s a very new system that started its operation from 10th Oct, 2010. It covers 73% area of Bhubaneswar city and connect Bhubaneswar with its surrounding cities like; Cuttack, Puri and Khurda. Presently all the bus operation is being undertaken through a Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode with the private partner Dream Team Shahara (DTS).
In an effort to modernize its services for increasing commuter comfort, BPTS is looking forward to introduce modern technologies and improve its operation through intelligent transport solution, make capacity enhancement by developing Infrastructure, fleet up-gradation and augmentation, apart from its core activities, which includes route network optimization, planning and monitoring.
BPTSL currently operates around 110 no. of buses and has already floated a PPP project for augmenting its fleet to 310 buses in 1st phase by this year. Handheld Electronic Ticketing Machines (ETMs) also being used for fare collection.
The Authorized & Paid-up Share Capital of the CRUT is Rs.1,00,00,000 (Rupees One Crore Only) consisting of 10,00,000 (Ten Lakh) equity shares of Rs.10/- each.
